Live OpenVz Trials
July 24th, 2011 by root
First trial with OpenVz come smothly, Just issue some basic command to estimate the ease to use of OpenVz
It is not too dificult to use, history of used commands:
4 vzctl create 101 –ostemplate debian-3.1-i386-minimal
10 vzctl start 101
12 vzctl exec 101 ps
13 vzctl exec 101 ps -aux
20 vzctl set 101 –ipadd 10.1.1.1 –save
29 vzctl create 102 –ostemplate debian-3.1-i386-minimal
30 vzctl start 102
31 vzctl exec 102 ps aux
34 vzctl set 102 –ipadd 10.1.1.2 –save
then from the host node, I can ping 10.1.1.1 and 10.1.1.2. However, from within VE 101, I can not ping 10.1.1.2 of VE 102. Need to dig more…

Live Linux on Windows with Qemu Manager
July 22nd, 2011 by papa
Ok, I got bored with Cygwin and wanted to have a complete linux environment on my Sony Vaio. However, there left only some GBs and the first idea came to me is creating a a bootable usb with live Linux. However I abandoned this approach after one hours unable making my Sony Vaio to boot from USB - seems some Bios problem that I did not want to wast time to dig.
So i come up with a free virtualization solution on Windows: Qemu. I decided to choose Qemu Manager to make me familiar with Qemu. At the same time I want to do some trial of OpenVz, a virtualization solution in linux, and compare with my familiar User-Mode Linux.
Here are some steps I have done:
- Installed Qemu Manager: http://www.davereyn.co.uk/download.htm
- Downloaded the Live OpenVz: http://wiki.openvz.org/Download/live_CD
- Downloaded also Live Debian: http://debian.mirror.iweb.ca/debian-cd/6.0.1-live/i386/iso-hybrid/
- Try some the persistent feature of live linux:
use qemu-img create debian_live_rw.raw 1G
add this raw image as hda in the virtual machine
boot live linux, use fdisk and mkfs.ext3 to create partitions live-rw, live-home
reboot, use tab to add “persistent” at boot screen
- Some link concerning live Debian: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=32146
To be continued …

Vietnamese Card Game
February 22nd, 2009 by root
Here is my 3-night work for converting my old vietnamese card game (in Delphi) into ActionScript and Flash. The game, called “Tú Tấn” in vietnamese, is a climbing strategy game . As this work is a quick-and-dirty conversion, some features (customization, rearrange) have been lost during the process. In return, users are provided with a nicer graphical user interface. Want to try? The rules are explained at game startup.

On the sharpness
September 1st, 2008 by papa

A default setting of 40D with 28-135 lens seems not to work really fine for the sharpness. Surfing around to see what people say about this combination. Need some tuning to optimize the performance.

* uv filters can degrade image performance, but the performance here seems to be the same on or off.
* lens hoods do provide benefit, and can increase contrast and percieved sharpness
* default settings on the 40D ARE soft. Increase sharpness in the picture style, or shoot in RAW so you can best control the sharpness and contrast.
* better glass will get you bettet out of camera results. A 28 or 30mm prime will go a long way towards making much better photos.

Canon Picture Style
September 1st, 2008 by papa
Always wondering why I could not produce the color effects as I wanted. Explored the use of canon picture style today. Downloaded some new picture style profile from canon webpage. From my point of view, it just a kind of filter that is applied for the conversion from RAW –> JPEG to create the desired sharpness, color, contrast, .. . No need for me to do the post processing with the color anymore.
I applied the CLEAR, AUTUMN HUES, EMERALD to the 3 user defines styles.

My Yahoo 360 vs My Facebook
July 9th, 2008 by root
Ok, It’s been two days since I started Facebook. The way to FaceBook seems to be smooth except the fact that I still miss my old 360 blog community. Friends may ask “so what is the different between blogging and social networking?”. Here are just some of my personal thoughts:
Yahoo 360: I like blogging as I like the control, the feeling when my writing is read, the feeling of sharing my last thoughts on the last date with friends on some special events or on some hottest news with friends. As a blogger, I’m also able to customize my page view with my own color, my own theme and positioning… Yes, you live in a community of writing, reading and sharing where INFORMATION is the key factor. Unfortunately, Yahoo abandoned his son (360) to follow the social networking era (Mash), this leads me to set up my own blog using Wordpress.
Facebook: However, People rarely understand deeply their friends. People love to be mentioned and to be understood as well as to have a bigger affection. Here come a new world of social networking where the person is at the center of their network and try to widen relationship. In such a community, the RELATIONSHIP is the key factor. Thanks to different applications “Tagging Photo”, “Compare People”, “Knight Hood”, “Mini Feeds” … Everyone can keep in touch with a minimal amount of time.

Problem is that I could not customize my page view on Facebook, I could not get in touch with friends on Wordpress, I could not risk my writing with Yahoo 360… Anybody see the light at the end of the tunnel? Can Wordpress and Facebook get married?

Thăm Biot
May 4th, 2008 by papa
